Rhapsody in a Ripple (The Backwaters of Kerala)

This movie attempts to capture the magic of the backwaters and their immeasurable influence on the land and the people of Kerala. 

 

Kerala is a small strip of tropical green, flanked by the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other. Kerala’s topography is unique and hence it has a wide range of attractions - mist clad mountains, blue seas, golden beaches, tranquil backwaters and gushing rivers. The backwaters are the lifeline of the people living nearby and an enchanting spectacle for the visitors. These backwaters preserve a rich biodiversity of fish and mussels and offer a means of livelihood to many on its banks. A cruise through these calm backwaters is enchanting. The monsoon rain falling over the backwaters is a beautiful sight to behold. Some of the celebrations associated with the backwaters add another dimension to its charm. Among these is the Nehru Trophy Boat Race that takes place on the second Saturday of August, every year, followed by other backwater events like Champakkulam and Payippad boat races.

This movie attempts to capture on video, the spirit of Kerala – the southwestern State of India described by the National Geographic Traveler as one of the 50 destinations of a lifetime.
